Who we are!
BELA EVANS
Bela
Evans, our President, took over the direction
of Success Chess in 2005 when our founder Dr. Kirshner
retired. A national and FIDE Master (FM), Bela has
been playing competitive chess for over 25 years, reaching
a peak US Chess Federation rating of 2375. He loves sharing
his chess knowledge with children at all levels and
presently teaches both classes and private lessons in
the Fremont area. Bela's philosophy in his own
words: "I think chess is not only great for teaching
young people to think, concentrate, and reason, but also
for learning good sportsmanship and how to make lifetime
friends."
JOSH EADS
Josh Eads, our Vice-President, has taught at
Success Chess for over a decade and was promoted to the
Vice-President position in 2006. Josh's primary
focus in teaching has always been to nurture a love of chess
in his students, and as Vice-President, he makes sure that same
focus is applied organization-wide. Josh is our
resident teaching expert, having not only taught for
years himself but also studied and evaluated the
approaches of countless chess teachers. Combining
that knowledge with current teaching theory, Josh works
with all of our teachers to bring fun, interactive, and
academic chess lessons to the classroom.
ZEB WILKES
Zeb Wilkes, our Office Manager, started at
Success Chess in 2010 and has proved to be an invaluable
member of our team. He is the primary contact for
phone and emails inquiries, and you might also see Zeb at your
school teaching or helping to manage a program.
OUR INSTRUCTORS
From certified school teachers to master chess
players, our coaches are selected based on their ability
to engage and nurture a child's interest in chess while
maintaining an effective academic learning environment.
And while we selectively hire a few new instructors every year,
most of our coaches have been with us for
years. Success Chess
believes that our staff's mix of teaching talent and
experience means that your child will receive the best
chess instruction around!
