Here are some of the games we will be exploring:

Tzolk'in is a brand new worker placement game by
Daniele Tascini and it's already ranked among the top 20 strategy
games in the world! Players face difficult decisions while
allocating resources, building monuments, and collecting victory
points all while immersing themselves in the ancient world of the
Mayans. This game offers a brilliant balancing act with almost
no luck involved at all - a true gem among its peers. Oh, and did I mention it has actual working gears?

Mage Knight is
a massive cooperative adventure game that runs on a deck building
mechanic. This means that instead of rolling die, players carefully
play from a deck of cards they've built in order to move around the
board, explore dungeons, heal their friends, and fight off dragons!
Since players are all on the same team, they must combine their
strategies in order to conquer this very difficult game.

Alien Frontiers may look like a luck based
game with all its die, but this masterpiece rises above mere
chance, tasking players with calculating odds, modifying their
rolls, and tactically controlling the board with their colonies.
A little like Yatzi meets Chess, this game is a real mind grinder,
and for that reason, a favorite among our teachers.

Struggle to survive in the Stone
Age by
working as hunters, collectors, farmers, and tool makers. This
worker placement game was released in 2008 and has received great
praise from game designers and teachers alike. Its beautiful
board and elegant rules combine seamlessly with mechanics that
reinforce planning ahead, calculating odds, and simple division
skills. It's always fun to teach math when the students don't
even realize they're learning.
